The centrality of the cottage to town and the cliff path. The room was clean, and Ruth was very friendly and welcomed us. We were comfortable and enjoyed being at the cottage.

This place has a very cozy, homey vibe to it. Ruth has been a great host, the kind who cares to keep you comfortable without hovering too much. And the neighborhood in general is very safe and welcoming, with a great shopping village around the corner, and the waterfront just a walking distance away

Staying at Eastcliff Cottage dispelled a long-held myth that we harboured, that Hermanus can only be truly enjoyed and appreciated when accommodation is a seaside hotel or self-catering apartment right across from the ocean. Instead, we had a quiet and tranquil garden to enjoy the bird life at dawn or to retreat to at any other time, a mere 400 steps from the cliff path at The Marine Hotel. It is close enough for the sound of the waves to lull us to sleep at night yet just far enough away to avoid most of the noise that follows mankind about. Another 400 steps or so placed us at the front door of most of the shops and restaurants in central Hermanus and the old harbour precinct, making dining out or getting the ingredients to prepare our own for a candle lit dinner on the deck at the cottage a pleasant stroll away. Ruth, the engaging and helpful owner, went well out of her way to ensure that our stay exceeded expectations, a welcome break from service personnel one would so often encounter elsewhere. If this were a game of some sort the score would have been Seaside Accommodation 3 Eastcliff Cottage 5. Genuinely looking forward to staying here again when next we are in Hermanus
