Hotel Overview

Surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with en suite facilities and on-site car parking.
Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden.
The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes.
The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha.
Just a short walk from Harrogate town centre, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

We loved our stay at this hotel. Great location. Loved the decor. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room very clean and comfortable. Superb shower. Lovely breakfast. It was a treat to stay at this hotel. Would highly recommend.

I won't hide the fact, we chose The Old Swan because it was the place where Agatha Christie went into hiding. The decor and atmosphere of the place felt unchanged from 1926 when the author spent 10 days here. With many Hotels if the decor feels 100 years old it's because it's unmaintained and in need of refurbishment. You can tell by loose door handles, cracked plaster and threadbare carpets. The Old Swan wasn't like this, everything was impeccably maintained and it felt like a movie set. The room and public areas were great, the bar was quirky and decent but the spectacular breakfast room was absolutely fantastic and the highlight of the whole lot. Room price was fair. Plenty of parking was available (which I was worried there wouldn't be). Harrogate city centre was a very short walk away (we came back and forth 2 or 3 times). Harrogate had loads of great restaurants and bars.

Food was fantastic with lots of options for all dietery requirements. Close enough to the town centre but far enough away from busy areas.
