It was great for the authentic Japanese experience and the feeling of staying up in the mountains. The onsens were a real must especially the ones outside. Sleeping on mattresses on the floor on top of tatami mats was an experience. It was also traditional in that all shoes were taken off at the front door and slippers were provided for the hallways, but had to be taken off in the rooms. Ohiradai was about half way between Hakone and Gora along the mountain train, so it was a great location if you wanted to go to Gora for the venicular railway and also the ropeway. Or you could go down to Hakone which was great for shopping, a few restaurants as well as a beautiful waterfall, shrine and Koi Carp.

The room is a good size, with a big table and enough space for two futon beds. Its located in a beautiful location near the Ohiradai train station and bus stop which is a good in between point if you either want to go back towards central Hakone or going to Gora for the cable car. The owner was also nice and helpful.

The location and staff helpfulness makes this property a true traditional experience. Having an opportunity to visit the outside Onsen by moonlight was wonderful. Joy, our receptionist was exceptionally friendly and helpful and is a fine Ambassador for your hotel.

Good value for money for a traditional kyoken stay. It is a traditional hotel, which means futons on tatami mats. Dont stay here if you arent willing to sleep like this, we loved it. The hotel has 2 private internal natural hot spring rooms for bathing, and 2 private outdoor hot spring place, only a 1 minute walk away. The owner was helpful and explain things when we arrived. Fridge in the room, and microwave in the reception area. Hot water for tea is always provided. Shampoo, separate conditioner and body wash all provided in the bathing spaces. They also provide kimonos for use when bathing, you can wear them on the walk to the outdoor space.
