Our stay in Hakone was defined by a level of hospitality that is both refined and deeply personal. From the outset, the staff stood out for their excellent command of English and their consistently thoughtful approach. Upon learning that this was our engagement trip, they went out of their way to make the experience memorable, with two gestures that were both unexpected and meaningful. During dinner, we were offered a complimentary sparkling sake, and we were also upgraded to the Imperial Room — a remarkable space that elevated the entire stay. The room itself is truly impressive. Spacious enough to accommodate a large group, it features a traditional ryokan layout with multiple living areas and a private onsen that comfortably fits two people. Overlooking the surrounding forest, it offers a quiet, immersive connection with nature. The property maintains a very classic character, preserving its original architectural style and atmosphere. This is not a modernized reinterpretation, but rather a place that embraces its heritage — something that adds depth and authenticity to the experience. Dining was consistently excellent, with high-quality ingredients and careful execution in every course, reflecting the standards expected in a traditional ryokan setting. What ultimately defines the stay, however, is the sense of calm. The natural surroundings, combined with the subtle sound of running water from nearby springs, create an environment that feels both serene and restorative. Overall, this is a place that delivers a distinctive and elevated experience, grounded in tradition, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality.

Lovely little hotel. We went in late March so I guess it was the busiest time of year but was very expensive for the quality of accommodation. But of course, as everywhere in Japan, the staff were excellent and extremely polite and very accommodating.
