Villa Meta is somethign really quite special. We were greeted like old friends by Luan, Marnia and his mother and made to feel incredibly at home. The property is situated in the tiny hamlet of Gusmar with a garden full of fruit and vegetables, the ever present tinkle of goat bells and peace at every corner of the residence. The house is large, full of home comforts (fantastic coffee machine), spotlessly clean and well appointed. We have never done a ‘homestay’ like this before. To be clear Luan and his family live down the valley but they treated us to the most incredible hosptiality and generosity. We had more food than we could hope to eat over our three days and two delicious hot meals provided as well where we were able to chat and get to know their family history and understand the true traditional Albanian way of life!

Meta is in a traditional small village high up in the mountains. The road itself on which you reach Gusmar is a miracle - beautiful valleys, high rocky peaks, marvellous waterfalls, good quality asphalt and exciting hairpins. Villa Meta has its own garden offering great privacy , possibility to chill, relax and enjoy the view of surrounding mountain scenery. The place is very remote, only a few families live in the area - who are very friendly by the way - which gives you a feeling that you are out of the fast paced daily civilization rush and offers you perfect opportunity for a peaceful rest. The Nivice Canyon near Gusmar is a must to visit. The Uspoiled nature, the force of water and erosion made stunning rock creations, super high stone walls, breath taking waterfalls and Crystal clear mini lakes in which you can have a baths. The whole place is so beautiful and untouched that you only see such in the movies. We have spent two days in Nivice Canyon with family and dog, then spent an other two days visiting the Seaside near Borsh which is a 40 mins drive from Villa Meta. The road offers brilliant views, the Ionian sea is very clear, the shore is sandy or covered with small white oval rock pieces like the ones you see in Kneipp spas. To this holiday we took our Mountain Bikes with us and rode an other two days in the region on rocky singletracks, alpine roads and western-like highlands. Alltogether we stayed 6 nights in Villa Meta - which offered generous space in and outside (we were 3 plus a dog), quality furniture, well equipped kitchen and bathroom, not very fast but liveable internet & wifi. The hosts are super friendly and helpful, showed us around in the area and adviced which places to visit, how and when. They provided tons of food, home - made milk and cheese, home grown fruit and vegetables. They live in a city nearby and brought an other ton of food in the middle of the week in case we may starve🫣😊.
