We stayed at the Goats Place for 9 days and absolutely loved every minute of it. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and cared for. The people living there are incredibly kind and helpful, always ready with tips, smiles, and great local recommendations. It made all the difference in helping us explore the island like locals. One of the sweetest surprises was Lassos, the resident dog – such a cutie! You could pet and play with him (with permission, of course), and he really added a special charm to the place. Every day we were treated to little delights – fresh bread or cake or avocados straight from the garden. It felt so generous and homely. Angela, the cleaning lady, deserves a special shoutout too – she was so cheerful, always singing while she worked. Her joy was infectious and made our stay feel even more wholesome. And the whirlpool… wow. We used it every evening, watching the sun set over the ocean or stargazing at night. It was simply magical – the kind of experience you dream about when planning a trip to Madeira. The place is called the Goats Place because there are goats grazing on the lawn (which is already awesome), but honestly? We think it’s named that because it’s truly the Greatest Of All Time. 🐐

The Goat's Place is easily one of the best accommodations we’ve ever stayed at. We spent 10 nights there while exploring the beautiful island of Madeira, and I’m writing this more detailed review because this place truly deserves it. Located in Gaula, it’s perfectly situated—close to the airport, Funchal, and within a 2–5 minute walk of two small shops, a bus stop, and a budget-friendly local restaurant/bar. There’s parking right in front of the house. While the road up is a bit steep, it’s nothing extreme—we had a fairly weak rental car and managed just fine, even multiple times a day. The hosts, Antonio and George, are possibly the best we’ve ever had. They took incredible care of us and helped with everything we needed. Each morning, we were greeted with fresh (and delicious) local bread, butter, and seasonal fruits, vegetables, and eggs from their garden and farm. George even surprised us with homemade cake and soup from time to time. This kind of genuine hospitality is rare, and we’re incredibly grateful for it. Our room in the house was spacious, clean, and filled with sunlight (though there are thick drapes available if you prefer to sleep in). The view of the ocean and the Desertas Islands was absolutely stunning. The bed was large and very comfortable—we slept like babies. The house has everything you could possibly need. We cooked our own meals in the well-equipped kitchen and enjoyed them out on the large terrace, soaking in the scenery. Ten days on Madeira weren’t enough for us, and we truly hope that when we return, we’ll have the chance to stay at The Goat's Place again. It really is the best. ❤️

We felt right at home staying with Antonio and George. Their house is beautiful, clean, and cozy – the kind of place where you immediately slow down and relax. Our room was comfortable and had its own little heater, so we were warm even in the evenings. The kitchen was well stocked, including fresh eggs from their chickens. And the cake they baked for us? Absolutely delicious! One of the highlights was definitely the outdoor hot tub with a sea view – perfect for unwinding. Antonio and George are wonderful hosts: kind, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have guests. And their adorable dog in the garden? Just the cherry on top. Highly recommend!

Amazing views, lovely hosts. The room and house were spotless. The bed was very spacious and comfortable. We loved the goats and chickens. Really enjoyed our stay and we would love to go back.
