Deborah “A charming, historic hotel”
22 Feb 2026
This historic hotel on Route 66 is a classic of its kind - you’ll not find another like it along the southern half of the route. It’s a throw-back to an earlier, more gilded age when movie stars swanned around the town during the day m costume and spent their evenings at the hotel. Every member of staff (yes, every, single ONE) was friendly, welcoming and warm; from the bar and restaurant staff to reception and back office the customer service was A+. The warmth of a log fire filled the cozy lounge area on the ground floor; on the second floor, reached by a beautiful hand-made double wooden staircase, we perused glossy photos of the stars of yesteryear. Our room, on the 3rd floor in the main building was, to be frank, on the small size for a double room and the en-suite shower was tiny. After all, it’s an old lady and standards were different in those days. But the bed was comfy and the room was warm; wifi and tv worked fine. Ask at the front desk for a hairdryer. Breakfast was superb, with a choice of delicious hot items (oh,that crispy bacon!) on the menu. We had a blast at Hotel El Rancho and would stay again and for longer, in a larger room. If you decide to stay, make sure you reserve a room in the main building, otherwise you’ll be in the annex next door, which is like any other motel, and you don’t get to walk down that beautiful staircase.
