Lovely views over Funchal and only a 10 minute walk to the centre, located in a quiet area, amazing property and facilities - absolutely spotless everywhere! Run by such an amazing small team, so everything was very personal (down to making a packed breakfast/lunch if you're going to miss breakfast due to an excursion for example, leaving snacks/nibbles out for when you're a bit peckish on an evening, just being super friendly in general!). Similar cost and amenities to the better hotels in the area but in another league, and not surrounded by hundreds of other guests - can't recommend this place enough.

Hidden gem is used so often , however, this oasis behind the gated walls and flowering bushes in the heart of Funchal, is truly a hidden gem. The main house and gardens are immaculate. Having been restored, and encompassing a mix of old and new the house is beautifully presented. Honestly bars are dotted around the premises which you are free to explore and lose yourself in. Our suite surpassed expectation. Quiet and so comfortable with the theme in keeping with the main house, looking out onto the pond and huge rubber tree it felt like we were the only ones there. Other than the beauty, comfort and fantastic location of the property, the owner Matthias and his team made our stay truly special. All were so welcoming and personable throughout. And the breakfast. . Yes it’s buffet style with eggs to order but not like the usual buffet style of breakfast. This breakfast is laid out on a dining room table and includes a range of beautiful fresh produce, including champagne and freshly squeezed orange juice. The breakfast is served from 9am to 1030 and it is worth waiting for to enjoy in the beautiful garden. We can normally take or leave breakfast on our hole but not here! Thank you to M and his team, we cannot wait to come back.

We were thinking for some time about what Villa Quinta Torrinha could be compared to, but in the end, we came to the conclusion that it truly stands in a class of its own. If we had to give it a name, we would call it a “Boutique Quinta” — it combines the luxury of a top-tier hotel with the charm, privacy, and individuality of an exclusive boutique estate. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed by Matthias, who brings not only warmth and professionalism but also a wealth of experience — something clearly reflected in the exceptional breakfasts he personally prepares each morning. Every day began with a selection of fresh, local, and beautifully presented delicacies that consistently exceeded our expectations. The entire atmosphere is calm and refined. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, yet so discreet they were barely noticeable — creating a seamless and relaxing experience. Set within a lush, beautifully maintained garden, the more than 100-year-old villa has been lovingly restored and modernised with a designer’s eye for detail. The result is a perfect blend of historic charm and contemporary comfort. Villa Quinta Torrinha is not just a place to stay — it’s an experience. One that we’ll remember fondly and can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for something truly special in Funchal. Can’t wait to come back — hopefully very soon!
