“Amazing stay with the most lovely hosts you can imagine!”
24 May 2025
The hosts of this beautiful Villa are just amazing! I had car trouble and wasn't able to find a taxi on a Friday evening; when I called the hosts, they right away offered to come pick me up. I had an excursion planned the next day, and again, they offered to drive me there and pick me up later that day. In the meantime John arranged a lot of things so my car was fixed that same day (while I was on my excursion) and they drove my car back to their place when everything was sorted out. I think this says a lot about the kind and helpful nature of Chantal and John. I felt as a guest in their house instead of someone just renting a hotel room. These hosts will go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Besides the hospitality, the villa and room were also just perfect. The villa is surrounded by flowers and there are some nice views. The facilities were all that you need and more. And a lovely breakfast was served every morning. The location of the Villa is central and perfect for trips to the coast.

“Charm and warmth.”

Great homemade jams for breakfast to put on variety of breads. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts - restaurant recommended was really good.

“Excellent Bed And Breakfast Central To Normandy!”

The Villa Chanteraine was excellent! I booked it for five days for vacation primarily to do the D-Day events near those World War II sites. It’s about an hour drive from most of those areas so it was a good location. The driving was fine, not a lot of traffic and I didn’t have to pay tolls. I came from a visit from Mont Saint Michel and it’s also about an hour away from the villa. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the town about a mile down the road, Villedieu-des-poiles (forgive my spelling!) where they makes bells for churches and also have a great art district and shopping and some nice restaurants. It’s a very picturesque town! And the house is beautiful and in the county, but also near the motorway and several major roads. So you get the best of both worlds! Chantal and John are the owners (Chantal is French, John Welsh, and both speak some English and French) and they are so nice and helpful! They told me about the little town or I would have known nothing about it and maybe wouldn’t have visited otherwise. They gave me restaurant recommendations, they talked to me about my D-Day plans and gave me advice on things that were going on and less well known WWII sites I didn’t know about! They had books and maps that they let me borrow to read up on it myself! They told me about their favorite things in Paris when they learned I would be going there afterwards. They were very nice and welcoming! Chantal made breakfast every morning, ham, cheese, lots of bread, butter, marmalades, yogurt, boiled eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice and usually some type of fruit. She also is very flexible about when you want breakfast served. Anytime I had questions or needed anything they were helpful and catered to my needs. I really appreciated that! If I ever come back to Normandy, I would most likely try to stay here again, because it was an excellent stay and staying at the Villa Chanteraine definitely helped make the experience enjoyable! :-)
