we had the most wonderful stay at Casa Altamira, without a doubt the best place I’ve ever stayed in Portugal. The property is spotless and beautifully maintained, set in an amazing location with breathtaking views over the Douro River. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming, going above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. He prepared an amazing breakfast, complete with fresh eggs from his own chickens — such a special touch! The atmosphere felt warm and homely, not least thanks to the three beautiful, loving dogs who kept us company and made the property feel even more magical. Casa Altamira is truly a gem, and we will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

Beautiful property, complete with panoramic terrace, a small vineyard olive and kiwi trees, goats and chickens who lay the eggs you eat for breakfast. Tiago and Alessandra made us feel like family and are proud of this heritage site.tiago made sure we were comfortable and made a brilliant, fresh breakfast. Upscale newly renovated facilities.

Casa Altamira was a delightful surprise — a charming old building in the middle of a tiny village along the Douro River. The location is stunning, with peaceful views over the countryside, mountains, and river. The couple running the property are warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, which made our stay feel personal and special. That said, there’s room for improvement. The mattress and pillows were not comfortable, and a fridge in the room would make a big difference, especially since the property has no restaurant and the village itself offers little within walking distance. While there’s an effort to give the house an aristocratic touch, some details (like the doors, closet etc) feel dated. Breakfast leans toward the rural side, which suits the countryside setting, though it could be refined to match the charm of the place. Overall, Casa Altamira is a peaceful rural getaway with lots of potential — and with a few thoughtful upgrades, it could truly shine.
