It's hard to even begin to describe our exceptional stay at Gol Pension. It was without doubt the best accommodation we've had in traveling for over 3 weeks in Turkiye. The inn is spotless. The rooms are large with comfortable beds. The breakfast included homemade jams, baked goods and homemade yogurt with fresh fruit, served in a parlor overlooking Lake Egirdir. But most precious are the gracious, warm, welcoming hosts Ahmet and his sisters, who go over and beyond in making our stay the finest it could be. If we could give scores higher than 10 we would. Years from now when we reflect back on our trip we will remember our stay at Gol Pension with much fondness and love.

This family pension - nowadays run by three sisters and their recently retired brother Ahmet - is on the end of the peninsula running into Lake Egirdir from the eponymous town. It has wonderful views of the lake just across from the quiet road. Unfortunately. the lake has lost a lot of water, partly due to climate changes meaning less rain but also largely due to the growth in both the apple growing and marble extraction industries and which both use vast amounts of water. There are 5 en suite spotless rooms and, as we were staying a week, we were offered the choice of all the rooms. All have access to a balcony or roof terrace. Breakfast is plentiful, beautifully cooked and very varied - they pride themselves on offering something different every day. Prime Turkish breakfasts with a twist. There is free wifi and a/c. Parking is directly outside and monitored by Ahmet! We were made very welcome. The sisters have only a little English but were very hospitable and friendly. Ahmet speaks a lot of English and offered lots of advice. We also learnt quite a lot about modern Turkish society form him. The Thursday weekly market at the base of the peninsula by the castle ruins is very worth visiting if you are there then. There are several good restaurants very close to the pension, though it was disconcerting that most left the sliding large windows and doors open in the evening when the temperature dropped considerably! Most accept credit cards. Most guests only stay briefly as Egirdir is a crossing point of several long distance routes. There are quite a lot of places worth visiting within easy car access, most with stunning views. Eg Bala, a nearby mountainside village; Pisidia Antiocheia, the remains of a Roman town visited 3 times by St. Paul, and the northern end of the 500km St. Paul Trail which begins at the coast at the Roman towns of Perge or Aspendos. The lake shores offer good birdwatching opportunities. NB Payment is only in cash, cards are not accepted.

Possibly the best breakfast I have ever had at a hotel/pension. Freshly cooked /prepared by the family and served with so much enthusiasm and charm. We had an absolutely wonderful stay and wished it could have been longer.

A rare find! Hospitality of home with comforts of a Pensione. Only wished we could have stayed longer and soaked up the view on the sun deck.
