The prefect place to relax in the Piedmont hills near Santo Stefano Belbo (birthplace of Cesare Pavese). Vine covered slopes in all directions around the agriturismo on the top of a ridge reached by winding single carriage roads. Generous sized apartment. Great cooking by Cristina - it is well worth booking dinner with her. Both Cristina and Carlo very friendly, welcoming and helpful. This is my refuge in northern Italy.

A wonderful location perched on top of a hill in the countryside described by Cesare Pavese in his Moon and the Bonfires (why I was here). We had a large apartment and when we opened the blinds in the morning we looked over vineyards and nothing else except mist. Cristina was an exceptional host delaying dinner for hours because we got stuck in the Gotthard Tunnel. The dinner was sublime - my mouth still waters remembering the beef in red wine. Carlo was also very welcoming and took us on a tour of the original farm property telling us about all the clever ways previous generations provided for the needs of the household such as water supply - fascinating.
