Arriving by train from Lisbon, we were met at the station and driven to our apartment by the owner’s son, and as all historically major cities in Portugal, particularly those with a Roman heritage, tend be situated on a mountain, it proved a very kind start. Sitting high above the Rio Mondego, the apartment has two floors. The upper floor with a generously sized bedroom, tastefully designed walk-in bathroom with all the usual amenities, and an outside balcony, which was bathed in the setting sun, whilst providing a magnificent 180 deg panoramic view over the river, and countryside all the way to the mountains. Downstairs was the large living area, with a fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, built-in washing machine, dining table and chairs, and a sofa, along with the laundry, with a second toilet and a shower/ bath. The amenities were all very generous and very comfortable. Being a second- floor apartment, there was another set of stairs to reach the outside door, which offered a downhill walk in both directions - either to get to the carpark and coffee shop on one side (from which 2 of our tours started), or the other, which was a 5-minute walk into the town proper, with its main street with shops, restaurants, and the major historical monuments.

Location was close to the central part of town and the university area. The host picked me up and dropped me off at the train station. Very gracious.

The location of the apartment is excellent and close to the university, with a beautiful view from the large balcony. Carlos was incredibly kind to our children during the visit and helped us to get settled quickly and enjoy our few days in beautiful Coimbra.
