The Alchemist Retreat is a superb studio dwelling tucked behind a stately residence in Carterton. The interior is done in a french style and has been finished with considerable attention to detail. Loved the fact there was no TV so we played some LPs from the collection. The location is an easy walk to town but there is a daairy across the road if you need something in a hurry. Carterton is a good place to base yourself to explore the Wairarapa. Its cheaper than Greytown and Martinborough but only a short drive to both.

Every little thing about the accommodation had been carefully thought out - right down to the beautiful kettle! A beautiful, relaxing place offering a private spot to unwind or explore the area - it most definitely lives up to its name of ‘retreat’.
