Everyone who lives and works here is honestly so nice! I couldn’t have wished for a better place to stay. The Waterfront is definitely more laid-back compared to the other Mad Monkeys in Cairns, which is exactly what I like about it. People are super friendly and chatty, but also give you space if you want to do your own thing. I’d absolutely recommend it!

This is hands down my favorite hostel in Cairns. From the moment I arrived, the staff were genuinely friendly and made me feel welcome. It’s the kind of place where it’s easy to feel comfortable right away. The location is ideal, everything you need is close by, but the hostel itself has a calm, relaxed vibe that makes it easy to unwind. Each room having its own bathroom is a huge plus, and everything is always clean and well looked after. The beds are comfortable, and the people staying here are generally respectful and considerate. There’s a good mix of travelers, and it’s easy to meet people in the kitchen, outdoor areas, or during one of the hostel’s social evenings like Wine & Cheese. A lot of guests stay long-term and are super open to including others, whether it’s going to the beach, doing yoga, or joining a volleyball game. If you’re looking for a place in Cairns where you can be social but still have your own space to relax, this is a great choice.

This is truly my favorite hostel in Cairns. From the moment you walk in, you feel completely welcome. Every staff member greets you with a smile, and there’s this warm, open atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. You don’t just stay here… you become part of something. If you want to live right where everything in Cairns is happening, but still come “home” to a peaceful and relaxing space, this is the place. Each room has its own bathroom, which is such a luxury, and everything is always clean and comfortable. The beds are super cozy, and people here are genuinely respectful and kind to each other. The kitchen is a great place to meet fellow travelers, and you’ll find all kinds of backpackers here, from first-timers to long-termers, everyone is open and happy to connect. The outdoor area is alright, and the hostel regularly hosts lovely evenings like “Wine & Cheese,” where you can just sit back, relax, and make new friends. What I love most is the community vibe, many people stay long-term and are so welcoming. They’ll invite you to join for yoga, volleyball, beach days, or just to hang out and explore. It’s so easy to feel like you belong here. Honestly, I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else in Cairns. 10/10
