I booked it at 1am on a Saturday night because I had lost the key to my other hostel and just wanted a place to sleep for under $200. Bed was comfy, room was clean, hostel was massive too, I wasn’t expecting that! I was on level 3 and that level alone had like 33 rooms, there were 4 levels though I can’t say what the layout is like! Given the size, it’s surprising how clean it is. Gilligan’s has a big reputation (obvious if you’re from the area or know Cairns) for being on the wilder side so it’s good for those people who are looking to add to their Facebook friends list count and have unforgettable nights (that you’ll forget probably) lol! I was in and out within 8 hours so can’t comment much but everyone seemed out to have a fun night and it almost reminded me of 10 years ago. Cant fault it for what it is, really. If you book it and complain that it’s too ‘socially active’ in any way, then that’s really on you. :) The staff member who checked me in (didn’t get her name, night shift on 25/10) was really friendly and seemed very at home on her shift and I appreciated her help in sorting me out. Ladies at checkout next morning were also great!

Check-in was easy, personell friendly and helpful. I did not make use of the various facilities but there is a lot.
