“Great view, food and ambiance”
24 Jan 2025
The view, the excellent food and the ambiance made this a really lovely stay. The owner and staff are helpful and friendly. There are some really nice touches in the decor and it feels private and relaxing. The bed was comfy and the private shower was appreciated!

“Unique, traditional guesthouse with character. Friendly Spanish owner, comfy, relaxing. Recommend.”

A tranquil, comfortable traditional Bijagos guest house with character on Bubaque, the main island of the Bijagos Archipelago, just off Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. Run and owned by an interesting Spanish guy in conjunction with 2 or 3 local guys. Situated in the only real town/village of the island, it's walking distance to a supermarket, other hotels/restaurants and shops, including a souvenir store selling locally made handicrafts. Guest House Saldomar has 7 private rooms, some on ground level and others up steps. Most rooms have double beds . Rooms are made of concrete and wooden with open windows closed by wooden doors. The room I stayed in has a large comfy double bed, moskito net, shower, separated from the bedroom by a semi-walled partition. Sink in the shower area with running water. Extra water in buckets in case of water shortage in the shower hoze. Bathroom decorated with seashells. Room has several tables made of wood and/or bamboo. One plug socket in room. One small rubbish bin in bathroom. Lights in room. Small and large towels provided. Bed has bed sheets and good, thick pillows. Bedding and towels can be changed on request. Free bottle of water with drinking provided in all rooms. Water is filtered and recycled and is drinkable. No toilets in rooms, but close to most rooms. One dry toilet, where ash is put into toilet after pooing. 3 toilets with water. Free Wifi in all rooms and throughout property. Fairly good speed, occasionally slow, depending on number of guests using it. Saldomar has wonderful grounds, a large garden area with terace and steps down to a rough beach. Many plants including cactus. Also banana trees and other fruits. Small fountain that recycles the water. Eco-friendly guest house. Toilet paper is biodegradable. Restaurant offers paid breakfast, lunch, dinner. The owner is a great cook. Excellent, tasty food. Plenty of seating options, bamboo chairs outside every room with cushions , swing seats and 2 hammacks.

“Particularly welcoming place. Delightful staff and owner. Great view. A place of peace!”

Excellent cuisine. Clean rooms with a beautiful view of the sea. The owner is very kind, friendly and helpful. You feel like family. Ideal for spending a weekend. Central location and easy to reach from the harbour.

“amazing paradise”
15 Jan 2023
amazing place and amazing host! the pictures don’t do the justice. it is a real paradise with beautiful views, each room meticulously designed and ecological. beds are super comfortable. and rooms are very spacious with en-suite showers. the food is absolutely delicious. you must try the pizzas and craft beer (and I am not even a beer perso). home made desserts are to die for! my recommendation is to come for at least a week. three days were not enough! and most importantly the conversations over breakfast and dinner - really amazing host and energy he creates here
