“Excellent too”

Breakfast was very good, staff were very helpful and pleasant. Location is quite remote with difficult lanes to navigate however the masons arms was worth the effort of getting there.

“Heaven!”

So relaxing and quaint. Lovely rooms and restaurant. Staff very helpful and friendly.

“Very good”
21 Jul 2025
The accommodation was nice and clean, with very nice design. But the room was very dark because there was only one tiny window, which made it difficult to ventilate properly. There was a small kitchenette, which would have been practical if it had at least a few pieces of basic cookware. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was typically British, so it was just average.

“Outstanding Devon inn that punches well above its weight and its price”

Mistake the Masons Arms for a typical English pub (with rooms) at your peril. This characterful 14th century inn is outstanding in every department; scrumptious food, exceptionally welcoming and observant staff, lovely ambience, and so on. But what elevates the St Austell brewery owned pub above the crowd is the attention paid to the minutest of details: for example dimmers on all the light switches, a retro Roberts radio in the bedroom, and auto-lights in the wardrobe. Mobile reception in deepest Devon can be poor, so a telephone in the bedroom gives guests free UK calls. Mellow night lights in the toilets trigger automatically so you don’t wake your partner if you get up in the middle of the night. And so on. Eight miles away lies a magnificent hotel called the Pig at Combe, and although the cosy Masons Arms cannot begin to match its sizeable grandeur, the wonderful experience we had did remind us of the Pig as much as it did the typical English pubs we have stayed at.
