The fine print
In case of a no-show, and according to Colombian law "Ley 300 de 1.996. Artículo 65", the property will charge 20% of the total reservation price, or keep depositFor the application of the VAT exemption, foreigners and Colombians who enter the national territory without the intention of establishing themselves in Colombia and who prove such condition are considered residents abroad.
The foreigner residing abroad must prove their condition by presenting the original passport, the Andean card or the Mercosur card proving their immigration status; For this purpose, the passport must be stamped with the PT code (tourism permit) with a validity of 90 days or the type V visitor visa.
The national will accredit his condition of resident abroad, by presenting the documentation issued by the authorities of the country of residence (ID of the country of residence, foreigner identification card, residence card or certificate of residence), with the respective seal of residence. entry to the country stamped in the Colombian passport; therefore, it does not apply if the entry to the country is made through biometric migration.
The exemption in all cases will be applicable for the purchase of a tourist package by the national or foreigner residing abroad.

This is a clean comfortable hotel a little out of the main centre (which is both good and bad as you don’t really want to be in the centre at night, but you do need to uber/cab to get anywhere interesting ). My room was huge, spotless and very comfortable with a great view over bogota. The reception staff don’t speak much English (I’m not saying they should but it’s worth knowing if you don’t speak any Spanish) but they’re all friendly and accommodating. Given the price this is great value when compared to other places I’ve stayed, but don’t include the breakfast if you have dietary requirements (I’m vegan and ALL the bread is non vegan and no plant milk - again, I’m not saying they should cater for vegans (although they had had advance warning) but it’s worth other guests knowing given its quite common these days). Overall it’s a good place to stay for a couple of days in the city.

While advertised as a standalone Hotel, Hotel Torre Montserrate is actually just a tower within the sprawling Hotel Tequedama conference and convention Centre. I think this needs to be more clearly explained in the promotional advertising as it is confusing ie taxis. The location is neither Candelaria or Chapinero but somewhere in between, right by the national Museum. The rooms are comfortable but dated. The common areas are pretty rough and dated. Breakfast was a large buffet and good. The front desk is understaffed, always huge cues and not particularly efficient. Very high value for money given the low cost of hotels in Bogota. The convention Centre is co-located with a Four Points Sheraton which is probably worth paying a bit extra to stay there as nicer.
