This is far more than just a place to stay — it’s an experience that lingers long after you’ve left. Each room is uniquely styled with colour, and thoughtful artistic touches that reflect the soul of the Karoo. It feels less like a hotel and more like stepping into a living gallery. The atmosphere is relaxed yet vibrant, attracting a mix of travellers exploring the beautiful Route 62. The food is simple and delicious, the sourdough bread baked in the bakery on site was my favourite! What truly sets this place apart, is its authenticity. It is quirky and charming. It’s the kind of place where you can completely unwind, be yourself, and feel part of something special. If you’re travelling through the Klein Karoo and looking for somewhere with heart, creativity, and a touch of magic, the Barrydale Art Hotel is an absolute gem.

The new Owners have worked hard to re-create the historic atmosphere whilst balancing that with building in modern amenities many guests want these days

Very friendly and helpful staff (ask for the morning swim in a nearby river). Very nice building with cool art. Good bar and restaurant.
