I am a historian and was visiting Ballarat being that it is one of the most significant historical towns in Australia. I brought my girlfriend who is from Europe because she had never been before. So I really wanted to stay in a grand hotel that connected with Ballarat's heritage and Craig's Royal Hotel did not disappoint, it was everything I was seeking. This hotel is beautiful and the management have done a fantastic job in maintaining its authenticity while providing all the modern amenities that one needs. I was greeted by a very outgoing and friendly host at the reception. She immediately told us about the history of the lift (the first in Australia). The hotel is like a historical art gallery and museum with stunning 19th century prints and photographs of the hotel and Ballarat. The rooms are very cosy and the beds are a treat to sleep on. I will be back.
