Hostel Overview

El Zopilote Permaculture Farm/hostel is a backpackers hostel and a permaculture farm at the same time. We offer various types of hospitality like private rooms, dormitories, camping areas and hammocks. We are in the Nicaraguan Ometepe Island, on the jungle slopes of the volcano Maderas 30km from the port town of Moyogalpa, between Santa Cruz and Balgue .
All of the rooms are basic but cosy with shared compost toilets and shared showers. All beds have mosquito nets.
Guests can enjoy the on-site farm to table restaurant which serves fair priced plates coming straight from the garden, open all day; and a pizzeria open every Tuesday and Saturday night from 6pm with fire shows, dancing, natural cocktails and fun. There is free WiFi in the restaurant area.
We organise many activities like free yoga , permaculture courses, cacao ceremonies, volcanoes tours, massages , workshops and lots of other activities.
Bring a flash light for the night, there are lights in all the huts but the footpaths that connect them have few lights to keep the habitat more natural.

El Zopilote has a very clear vision, and executes on it with integrity. It's a beautiful place if you allow yourself to be interested in the offerings, and the space itself. There are plenty of animals and bugs around, and being a permaculture farm, not everything is super aesthetic, as function is more important than form.

Beautiful property where you really feel like you’re in nature. Staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful. We had a private cabin, which felt nice and quiet and secluded (except on pizza night!) and enjoyed many of the daily activities. I would highly recommend the permaculture tour, which teaches you more about the property and some of the things they grow there. There are a number of really nice cafes and restaurants nearby as well, as well as a nice beach. The hostel is generally quiet and chilled and has a friendly, sociable atmosphere. Yes it’s a bit of a walk uphill to get to, and there are creatures around, but they’re very upfront about that and it’s part of the experience. We ended up extending our stay at Zopilote, and might have stayed longer but we honestly couldn’t face another pizza night!

Tucked away in the jungle with lots of nice places to relax. A lot of activities you can do, like yoga, pizza night, etc.
