I was so excited to stay at Quinta Da Ermida after hearing amazing things from a friend who stayed a few weeks prior. The location is a dream, the views, the pool, the river, the waterfall and grounds were perfect - the property feels like going back in time in the best way. The dinner on arrival was delicious but options were limited when it came to the main dishes.

We had an incredible stay here over three days. Neither of us drive, so it’s rare to find somewhere this affordable and relaxing — with a pool AND river access — that’s also accessible by train and on foot, without compromising on access to delicious food, beautiful surroundings, and genuine hospitality. A tip for future guests: you can walk just 2 minutes along the train tracks to reach the gate of the property — ignore Google Maps, which sends you the long way around. When the staff realised we’d taken that route, they even came and picked us up (we hadn’t arranged this — they just went out of their way to help). We were so well looked after, especially by Celia, who was an absolute hero. She made sure we had everything we needed, and truly went the extra mile — thoughtful, kind, and so attentive. If you're lucky, you might even get to try one of her desserts — they're next level! She was kind enough to share a recipe with me, too, but alas, mine wasn't as good! The air conditioning in the room was ace, the four-poster bed was huge and super comfy, the food was all home-cooked and the wine was icy cold and flowing. We loved swimming in both the pool and the river, and the grounds were stunning — lush, green, and dripping with citrus trees. We’ll definitely be back, what a dreamy time.

Our stay at the Quinta was one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal! It is beautifully situated on the North bank of the Douro. We felt like house guests in a previous age, with the comforts of today. We stayed in a big bedroom, with a very comfortable king 4-poster bed. A very good breakfast was served outside, overlooking the river, with freshly squeezed orange juice - highly appreciated! It was very hot, when we stayed and we spent a lot of time in the lovely pool, overlooking the river beach. Thanks to Susanna, Celia, Sarah and the others that contributed to a memorable sray!

The tranquility, riverside view, grounds, beach area for the kids, pool, lovely building, waterfall, staff, everything. Easy enough to get to by train as just a bit further down from the station
