Gordon “Great value hotel in the heart of Auckland CBD near the waterfront”

This is a pub and microbrewery with rooms on the third and fourth floors. The room itself was small, and it wasn't that fancy or sparkling clean. However, it was perfectly acceptable. The location is great - you're right in the heart of the CBD, just a few minutes walk to the waterfront and the ferry terminal. I was a bit concerned that there might be noise at night from the bar but it wasn't a problem at all - by 9:00 things are wrapping up, and by 10:00 everyone had gone home. So, in the end, being above a bar was all positive and no negative - they've got a good selection of beer on tap, and by the time I was ready for bed everyone had gone home. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I thought this place was great value - other (presumably fancier) hotels nearby were way more expensive.

Very good location downtown, made it significantly easier to wander and explore Auckland. Also fairy close to parking garages, so very convenient to not have to worry about street parking. I think the general atmosphere of The Shakespeare was very good, I'm a sucker for a more "vintage" kind of look.
