“Fabulous family holiday in gorgeous Wensleydale. We’ve never seen so many waterfalls in so few days!”

We loved staying at The Roost. The cottage is the perfect balance of old and new and so well positioned to enjoy gorgeous walks - and treat ourselves afterwards at the village cafe and pub!

“Superb”

“A great cottage for two, or a family of four.”
13 Feb 2025
This is a lovely, spacious cottage in a superb location, tucked down a side street near Askrigg church. Despite the cold spell during our stay, the cottage was always wonderfully warm. The place was spotlessly clean and equipment levels throughout were excellent, allowing us to cater for ourselves on a couple of evenings, although both local pubs are excellent. A note on the pubs: It would be wise to book for evening meals, especially during busy school holiday periods. Parking is first come, first served, but we had no problems, and the car didn't move for days as walks from the doorstep are plentiful and varied. There was good communication from the owners, and they provided information packs on everything from appliances to local walks and amenities. This is one of the best cottages we've stayed in, in 30 years of visiting The Dales.

“One of our best Christmas stays away ever”
31 Dec 2024
The location was perfect close to the 3 pubs (the furthest one being a 3 minute walk away) the shop/cafe/deli 1 minute walk away. Step outside right onto public footpaths for some amazing walks and countryside The Roost was cosy warm with a fully equipped kitchen of good size with an amazing large multi stove burner in the lounge. Shower and bath both fantastic. And the Christmas carols outside the church directly opposite the Roost on Christmas Eve was super special. And Garjer Christmas came to visit on a tractor.
