I loved how quirky and unique the castle grounds and rooms were. A real warm and welcoming feel like visiting an old friend. So much to explore and discover as well as stimulate the imagination. I found the history and artefacts absolutely fascinating. A perfect castle experience for me. The dining was first class ,I enjoyed fresh garlic mushrooms decorated with flowers and peashoots as a starter and local lamb for the main .The dining hall was set for a banquet and the classical piano played by Peter made it even more magical. A big thank you to the chef. The bar is also a friendly welcoming space filled with exquisite carvings the three little gargoyles on the mantle made me smile. As a solo traveller it was lovely to chat to the owner Mrs Nightingale and other guests who made me feel welcome and included. Thank you, Abbleyby Castle for indulging my curiosity and a wonderful stay.

I stayed in the cottage with my young lads and it was brilliant the host was attentive and she made us feel like at home. Spacious cottage with all the facilities. It was a hot day and the castle and cottage was cool inside kids had pool table and board games to keep them busy. Read some comments unfortunately before I booked but the pple who want to stay at the Hilton shouldn’t comment on a Roman castle having slight slopes in rooms or stairs that’s what makes this special so much history great walks around the grounds .
