Mare Grande is a homespun beach holiday park where people are relaxed and friendly. After some of the crazy drives in Italy, the expanse of the beach and the on-site parking was very welcome. The 'innkeepers' speak just enough English while being wonderfully local Italians, and when they produced the electric tea kettle, still in its box, that I'd requested for my tea-totaling partner, I wanted to kiss them! 'Value for money' is as the photos show - this is like a beach caravan/motel, but to be able to jump in the ocean, use their washing machine and detergent for 5 euro, and their drying rack -- and to then dress up and walk up to the more formal/fancy Tropea town above, was great. Also great local food and warm service at the beachside restaurant just next to the Mare Grande. A great spot.

I don’t get why some people are giving this a bad review. It was an incredible stay for me and I was there for 20 days. Beautiful beach-front location, clean and comfortable. Staff are so friendly too.

Location and parking on site. It was very clean and recently remodeled. Access to the beach, castle and the town center is perfect.

The location is perfect, only a few steps from the sea. There are chicken, ducks a lovely goose and friendly cats walking around on the property, so lovely. The steep stairs to the center of Tropea are close by, so in minutes you are there. The cabin is nice and clean with a comfortable bed. On the terrace there is also a kitchen and I liked it a lot, the outside cooking! If you’re not into cooking so much, we also ate at the restaurant on the premises and the pizzas were really good! Friendly staff.
